Med Gulls

 Several large flocks of Mediterranean Gulls over us recently, 50, 20 & 30 birds all heading east and apparently on the move. Seen more four miles inland than off Selsey Bill this year, bizarre. 

Blackcap

 Generally quiet really, a few Brent moving at Selsey but mostly seeming to miss the Bill, a Stonechat and Firecrest new in were nice however. No sign of the RCPs at Whyke Lakes hut a surprise early Blackcap there today.

Spooner

 A Spoonbill on the ferry pool was close and awake and feeding voraciously this morning which makes a change. Over the previous weekend, a Red-necked Grebe and the long staying Puffin were offshore at the Bill.

Purple Sandpiper

 Two Purple Sandpipers at Medmerry breach today with good numbers of Dunlin; oddly no Ringed Plovers though!

Scaup

Scaup on a private reservoir in West Sussex in January; owners requested no location/info be made public, bird gone now unfortunately..

Puffin & Little Owl

 Two good birds today: a Puffin at the Bill & a Little Owl at North Wall. Surprisingly, over the last few years I have seen more of the former than the latter which tells its own tale of the decline of Little Owls in the area...

Merlin

A look at the Medmerry trail was productive this morning with literally the first bird spotted being a Raven with the other highlight a flyby Merlin, both nice additions to the year list. At the Ferry, the Long tailed Duck was asleep on the far bank, still a hood deal closer than the ones at the Bill!
